Which kitchen style is best for you?

For most people, their kitchen is the room where the magic happens. So, if you’re thinking about revamping your kitchen then deciding on the style is a good starting place.

We’ve written this short guide focussing on the 6 most popular kitchen styles, to help you choose.

Country /Farmhouse

Country-style kitchens are full of timeless charm and are a good choice if you want to create a warm and relaxing vibe in your kitchen. Usually suited to older style properties like barn conversions and cottages, they balance comfort with functionality. You’ll see Rangemaster and Aga style cookers in a country-style kitchen as well as wide sinks, large timber tables or an island, open shelving, wooden dressers, tiled kitchen flooring, and colours that resemble nature-like sage and olive green, grey-blue, white, and yellows and creams.

Adding window blinds instead of curtains, using hardwood flooring instead of stone tiles, and replacing old-fashion door handles with more modern ones will all add that modern touch that will suit a newer style of home.

Industrial

This style of kitchen has taken off over the past few years due to its ability to blend together the nature of beauty as well as different textures and materials.

The industrial kitchen is normally associated with large open-plan rooms, but it can be adapted to suit almost any size of kitchen.

One of the main characteristics of an industrial-style kitchen is exposed brickwork and pipework because it adds that ‘warehouse’ feel. If you don’t want to start chipping away at the plasterboard, then there are clever wallpaper options out there that will give the same effect.

Exposed pipework and metal like brushed copper, brushed silver, and gold, hammered metal and black painted metal all give that grungy factory feel. The colour scheme of an industrial kitchen is usually dark, but if that’s not what you’re into or if you have a small kitchen, then you can try mixing the shades across the kitchen to open it up and create a feeling of more space.

Minimalistic

As the name suggests, a minimalistic kitchen is a streamlined and clutter-free one. Utensils, pans, crockery, and appliances are hidden behind sleek cupboard doors to give clean lines and simplicity.

If you think that a minimalistic kitchen is a boring kitchen, then think again. There’s no denying that a white kitchen will always stay looking fresh. But, you can make the room interesting by decorating using a modern colour theme, like grey or midnight blue, and by adding contemporary fixtures and fittings like a mono mixer tap in matt black or brushed metal, dome pendant lighting, and designer-style breakfast bar stools.

Rustic

Rustic kitchens are easy to fall in love with because they invoke feelings of warmth and cosiness. As the name suggests the use of wood is the main characteristic of this style of kitchen. Distressed and unfinished wood look good in a rustic style kitchen as do stone and wood flooring, hand-crafted open shelving for crockery and pans, wooden beams across the ceiling, and reclaimed wood dining table and chairs.

If you want a contemporary feel to this style of kitchen then try adding a funky rose gold pendant light or smoked glass globe.

Contemporary

If you’re looking for a sleek and sophisticated bespoke kitchen that is in keeping with the times we are currently living in, then a contemporary kitchen may be what you’ve always dreamed about.

Contemporary kitchens make use of simple yet stylish kitchen furniture, glossy cabinets, mirrors, and bright furnishings to suit the modern interior design style of the day.

LED lighting, handleless cabinets, hidden white goods, and state-of-the-art kitchen appliances, are all elements of a contemporary style kitchen designed to WOW.

Shabby Chic

The shabby chic/upcycled look is still on trend with no sign of moving on soon. The shabby chic style of kitchen brings together old and new styles of furniture, furnishings, and décor, and if you’re on a tight budget it can be a cost-effective way of revamping your kitchen.

The shabby chic style incorporates upcycled kitchen cabinets, distressed furniture, whitewashed floorboards, retro fridge/freezer, and neutral shades like white, cream, grey and duck-egg blue. Add some pretty floral crockery and some vintage furniture to complete the look.
